Based on Vicente Blasco Ibáñez's 1922 novel "La Tierra de Todos," about an engineer from Argentina who falls in love with a wealthy, seductive marquess. Garbo's second Hollywood film, following "The Torrent"—a 1926 adaptation of another Ibáñez novel, "Entre naranjos" (1900).
