An UFA production shot in France, cast with both German and French actors, and in French. Director Reinhold Schünzel was one of the few Jewish directors permitted to continue making films in Germany under the Nazi regime, having been granted the title of Ehrenarier, or "Honorary Aryan," due to his widespread popularity. Schünzel would eventually leave Germany for Hollywood in 1937, in response to interference by the German government in his filmmaking.
