A young wizarding apprentice is selected via magical amulet to be the successor to a powerful sorcerer, a position which also necessitates traveling to a nearby kingdom to kill a murderous dragon. A large part of the film's budget went towards special effects for the dragon, finalized by noted visual effects producer and supervisor Phil Tippett.

Set in sixth-century Britain, shot in North Wales and Skye, Scotland.
