Four original photographs of George Jessel
N.p. N.p., 1950s-1970s. Four vintage photographs of film producer, singer, and actor George Jessel, including three circa 1950s-1960s, and one circa 1970s. Provenance stamps and annotations in manuscript ink and pencil on the versos.
Jessel first began acting in vaudeville and on Broadway at the age of ten, after the death of his father, in order to support his family. By 1925 he was known as one of the top leading men on Broadway due to the success of "The Jazz Singer," in which he had a starring role. He began working as a producer in the 1940s, producing 24 films with Twentieth Century-Fox, most notably "Nightmare Alley" (1947). He is perhaps best remembered today for his six-year marriage to silent era star Norma Talmadge, the source of significant scandal, as the pair began their relationship when Talmadge was already married.
8 x 10 inches. Generally Very Good plus, one with touch-ups on the recto for print publication, and two with layout annotations on the margins.
