Based on Maurice Druon's 1955 novel "The Film of Memory," in turn loosely based on the exploits of real-life Italian heiress and socialite Luisa, Marchesa Casati Stampa di Soncino. Druon's novel also served as the basis for a 1965 stage adaptation, "La Contessa," starring Vivien Leigh.
Shot on location in Rome and Venice.
