Based on Bruce Marshall's 1953 novel "The Fair Bride." A Catholic clergyman resigns from priesthood because of the church's support for the Nationalist rebels in the Spanish Civil War. When Loyalists begin attacking churches and clerics, the former priest tries to hide with the help of a cabaret singer and a war correspondent.

Set in Spain, shot on location in Viterbo, Sicily, and Rome, Italy.
