Included with the book is a broadside advertising a 1967 performance of the play at California Hall in San Francisco, starring Billie Dixon and Richard Bright, as well as a ticket for the same.
A classic of underground theatre, frequently prosecuted due to its profanity and simulated sexual acts, first staged at the Actors' Workshop in San Francisco in 1965. The play was filmed by Andy Warhol in 1966, starring Gerard Malanga and Mary Woronov.
McClure moved to San Francisco in his youth, and was a key figure in the Beat Generation. He is today remembered as one of the five poets who read at the famous San Francisco Six Gallery reading in 1955, and was depicted in Jack Kerouac's novels "The Dharma Bums" and "Big Sur."
