Based in part on the 1948 Italian film "The Bicycle Thief," directed by Vittorio De Sica, in which Pee-wee's beloved bicycle is stolen and he must follow a goofy cross-country trail of leads in order to retrieve it. Director Tim Burton's debut feature film, and the first pairing of Burton and his longtime composer Danny Elfman.
Shot on location in California and Texas.
