Dau al Set was an arts collective founded by poet Joan Brossa in 1948, in response to the conservative government which had taken control after the Spanish Civil War. Heavily influenced by Dadaism and Surrealism, the group began publishing a magazine journal the following year, with much of the publication written in Catalan, a language which had been banned under the Francoist dictatorship. The group began to dissolve in 1951, but the magazine continued to be published in a more limited capacity by editor Joan-Josep Tharrats until 1956.
