Quarry [Quarry: An Opera in Three Movements]

Meredith Monk

New York: La Mama E.T.C., 1976. Vintage poster for the premiere of the avant-garde opera by Meredith Monk at La Mama ETC in New York, April 1976.

Conceived as a portrayal of the harmful effects of an autocratic society on the collective mind, body, and spirit, "Quarry," a multi-media opera in three movements, "Lullaby," "March," and "Requiem," depicts the reverie of an American child sick in bed during World War II, a dream that gradually mutates into a nightmare. Winner of an OBIE award in 1976.

The opera was preceded by Monk's short, silent film "Quarry" in 1975, and the opera was documented in a 1977 film of the same name by Amram Nowak, supervised by Monk.

16.5 x 22 inches. Folded as issued. Very Good plus, with two faint horizontal creases, a 1 inch closed tear to the bottom and a 2.5 inch closed tear to the top center vertical fold, both repaired with cello tape to the verso.
