One from the Heart
N.p. N.p., 1981. Vintage oversize borderless photograph of Francis Ford Coppola, Nastassja Kinski, and Frederic Forrest on the set of the 1981 film, with a French snipe printed on the verso.
Francis Ford Coppola's first directorial effort after his 1979 Vietnam masterpiece, "Apocalypse Now," shot on strikingly stylized sets at his newly opened Zoetrope Studios. Screenwriter Bernstein had originally planned the story to be set in Chicago, but the setting moved to Las Vegas at Coppola's insistence, viewing the western city as a more romantic atmosphere.
Hank (Forrest) and Franny (Garr) live on the outskirts of Las Vegas, but after five years their relationship has deteriorated, and they both yearn for new love. Hank meets Leila (Kinski), a beautiful high-wire artist, and Franny meets Ray (Julia), a dashing actor-waiter. Throughout their separation, Hank and Franny still love each other, and their search for romance brings them back to each other.
Singer-songwriter Tom Waits received an Oscar nomination for his original score, performed with country singer Crystal Gayle.
