Based on the 1979 novel by screenwriter Steve Shagan. George C. Scott stars as an LAPD detective who uncovers a formula for synthetic gasoline devised by the Nazis in WWII, thereby eliminating the necessity for oil—and oil companies. When a major oil company, headed by a greedy and ruthless oil magnate, played by Marlon Brando, hears of the formula, they will stop at nothing to destroy it and anyone involved.

Shot on location in Germany, California, and Switzerland. Nominated for an Academy Award.
