A successful silent film actor through the late 1910s, Charles Ray was usually cast in unsophisticated, "country boy" roles, frequently working with the Thomas Ince Studio. Ray founded his production company in 1920, purchasing a studio on Sunset Boulevard, in hopes of creating films that would broaden his image. The company would declare bankruptcy after the failure of "The Courtship of Miles Standish" in 1923.
