French-American actor and director Robert Florey was a director of B-films, working with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Warner Brothers, Paramount, and Columbia over a Hollywood career spanning three decades. He is best remembered today for directing the first Marx Brothers film, "The Cocoanuts" (1929), and the 1932 horror film "Murders in the Rue Morgue." His 1937 film "Daughter of Shanghai" was selected for inclusion in the National Film Registry.
