Based on Gordon M. Williams’s 1969 novel. An American returns with his wife to her hometown in England, only to run afoul of the locals, with increasingly violent consequences. Controversial in its depiction of physical and sexual violence, even within Sam Peckinpah's often controversial filmography, the film is also frequently considered one of the director's best.
Set in Dando, Cornwall, and shot on location in Cornwall and Middlesex, England.
