Gray is best remembered today for his long-form, autobiographical onstage monologues, including the aforementioned "Swimming to Cambodia," adapted to the screen a year later by Jonathan Demme, as well as his monologues "Monster in a Box" (1992) and "Gray's Anatomy" (1996), adapted by Nick Broomfield and Steven Soderbergh respectively.
