The second of four productions of "A Star is Born," following the 1937 film starring Janet Gaynor, and followed by one in 1976 starring Barbra Streisand, and one in 2018 starring Lady Gaga. Garland was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her performance, which was heavily promoted by MGM as her comeback to the screen after a four-year hiatus.
