Mildred Pierce

New York: Alfred A. Knopf, 1941. First Edition. James M. Cain's second novel, considered by many to be his finest work.

Basis for the classic 1945 film noir, directed by Michael Curtiz and starring Joan Crawford and Ann Blyth. Definitively remade by director Todd Haynes for HBO in 2011, starring Kate Winslet, Guy Pearce, and Melissa Leo, finally restoring the novel's devastating third act.

An exceptional copy of a book normally found well worn. Contemporary owner name, dated 1941, on the front endpaper. Otherwise Fine, fresh, and unread in a Near Fine or better dust jacket, with just a hint of fading to the light blue on the spine panel, and only the most minute pinpoint rubbing in a few spots.

The Dark Page I: 1940-1949, p. 46.
