Movie Magic Budgeting User's Guide

Chris Huntley, Stephen Greenfield

Burbank, CA: Screenplay Systems, 1987. Original vintage User's Guide for the 1987 version of Screenplay Systems DOS software "Movie Magic Budgeting," with manuscript ink annotations of the operational breakdown on the verso of the title page.

Chris Huntley and Stephen Greenfield (aka the "Write Brothers") first set up shop in Burbank, California in 1982, with the intention of inventing a new category of software for the filmmaking industry. The first software released, in early 1983, was "Scriptor," the first screenplay formatter, which quickly became the industry standard for screenwriting professionals. In 1994 Huntley and Greenfield were honored with the first (and only) Technical Achievement Award by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences for "Scriptor."

In 1985 Huntley and Greenfield released "Movie Magic Budgeting," and in 1987 released "Movie Magic Scheduling/Breadown," both of which also quickly became industry standards in film and television. The software subsequently went through several iterations, including DOS (found here), Classic Macintosh and Window versions, and is now cloud-based.
