The Prince and the Showgirl
N.p. N.p., Circa 1957. Vintage reference photograph from the 1957 film, showing Laurence Olivier and Marilyn Monroe.
Based on Terence Rattigan's 1953 play "The Sleeping Prince," about the visiting prince of a small (fictional) Balkan nation who falls in love with an American showgirl while in London. A notoriously difficult production, forming the basis for two behind-the-scenes memoirs by Marilyn Monroe's personal assistant, Colin Clark—"The Prince, the Showgirl, and Me" (1996) and "My Week with Marilyn" (2000)—the latter sharing the title of the 2011 film.
Set and shot in London.
10 x 8 inches. Lightly faded to the right portion of the image, else Near Fine.
