Way Down East
Beverly Hills, CA: United Artists, 1920. Vintage studio still photograph from the 1920 film, showing Burr McIntosh casting Lillian Gish away from the dinner table, while the other boardinghouse residents look on.
The third of four film adaptations of Lottie Blair Parker's 1897 play, a melodrama about a young woman who falls into disgrace and despair after being misled by a handsome cad. The film's famous climactic scene, in which the heroine is stranded on an ice floe and narrowly rescued by her beloved, was shot on location in White River Junction, Vermont, and left Gish with only partial use of her right hand for the rest of her life due to exposure.
10 x 8 inches. Very Good plus, with neat pinholes at each corner, lightly and evenly toned.
