In the 23rd century, a military veteran turned taxi driver is unwillingly thrown in with a beautiful humanoid alien, Leeloo, who holds the key to the survival of the planet. A worldwide box office success, the film was first conceived by director Luc Besson at the age of 16, although the film was not completed and released until Besson was 38.
