The debut release by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds following the dissolution of Cave's previous band The Birthday Party. The release marked a move from the Birthday Party's chaotic post-punk to a highly literate, blues-infused, gothic brand of storytelling that would define much of Cave's subsequent career. Widely regarded as one of the key albums of the 1980s.
