Cries and Whispers [Viskningar och rop]

N.p. N.p., Circa 1972. Two vintage borderless reference photographs from the set of the 1972 film—one showing director Ingmar Bergman talking with actors Liv Ullmann and Ingrid Thulin between takes, the other showing Bergman with cast and crew members in the projection room, reviewing daily rushes. Both with the stamp of photographer Bo-Erik Gyberg on the verso.

Included with the photographs is a nine-page copy of an English-language publicity article about Bergman and the film, dated 1973, housed in an envelope with the label of Ernie Anderson, Bergman's American talent agent with the Paul Kohner Agency, affixed to the front.

In her last days, a woman dying of uterine cancer is moved to her childhood home, where she is placed under the care of her emotionally distant sisters and distraught maid. Bergman's abstracted portrait of his mother, with each of the women in the film representing an aspect of her personality.

Shot on location at Taxinge-Nasby Castle in Mariefred, Sweden.
