Imitation of Life

Vintage maquette for a poster or flyer promoting actor Susan Kohner's performance as Sarah Jane Johnson in Douglas Sirk's 1959 film "Imitation of Life," likely created by her father and talent agent, Paul Kohner, in advance of awards season. Hand-painted black-and-white image of Kohner as Johnson, with her name and the film title in white and red at the top left and bottom right corners, respectively.

Kohner received both Academy Award and Golden Globe nominations for her performance, winning the Golden Globe Award for Best Supporting Actress.

9.25 x 12.25 inches. Very Good or better, with light wear to three corners, executed in gouache on card stock. Artwork moderately toned and partially detached from paper.
