A former drug dealer tries to quit his old habits, but nevertheless finds himself caught in the crosshairs of a large-scale Drug Enforcement Administration investigation. The second film to be both written and directed by Robert Towne, following "Personal Best" (1982). Nominated for an Academy Award for Best Cinematography.

Set and shot on location in Manhattan Beach, California.
