One of only two forays by Hughes into biography or non-fiction, having established herself with four of the greatest novels of crime fiction published in the mid-20th century, "The So Blue Marble," "The Fallen Sparrow," "Ride the Pink Horse," and "In a Lonely Place." The last three of these were made into canonical films noir.
