The Student of Prague
N.p. N.p., 1926. Four vintage oversize gloss-finish reference photographs from the 1926 classic German Expressionist silent film.
Influenced by the story of "Faust," and a remake of the 1913 German silent horror film, directed by Stellan Rye, and starring Paul Wegener and John Gottowt. A masterwork of German Expressionist silent cinema, directed and co-scripted by Hernrik Galeen, director, screenwriter, and actor of the partially lost 1915 German Expressionist classic "The Golem," and screenwriter for the German Expressionist classic "Nosferatu" (1922). Largely considered as Galeen's most important film, second only to "The Golem."
Contrad Veidt stars as Balduin, a poor student who makes a deal with a mysterious money lender, Scapinelli, as unsettlingly portrayed by Werner Krauss, for anything in his apartment for a significant sum of money, oblivious that his reflection in the mirror is also the room, which Scapinelli then proceeds to take. Remade as a German horror film in 1935, directed by Arthur Robison, and starring Anton Walbrook and Theodor Loos.
12 x 9.5 inches. Very Good plus, with light edgewear and some light creasing at the top margins, and one with a chip to the top right corner.
